Eight New York Golfers in Field for LECOM Health Challenge

FINDLEY LAKE, N.Y. (UPDATE: July 8) – Matthew Campbell and Dan McCarthy were the only New Yorkers to advance past the first two rounds of stroke play at the LECOM Health Challenge at Peek’N Peak last week, July 4-7, in Findley Lake, N.Y.

Campbell finished T-13 at 16-under 272 (64-69-69-70), while McCarthy strung together a 70, 66, 71, 68 to finish T-29 at 13-under 275. 

Michael Miller and Jamie Sindelar missed the two round cut at 140. Derek Bard came in at 141, while Bryan Bigley finished at 142. Kevin Roy and Trevor Sluman both finished at 146.

FINDLEY LAKE, N.Y. – Eight golfers from New York State will compete in the LECOM Health Challenge at Peek’N Peak this week, July 4-7, in Findley Lake, N.Y. 

The group includes Derek Bard of New Hartford, Bryan Bigley of Rotterdam, Matthew Campbell of Rome, Dan McCarthy of Syracuse, Michael Miller of Mount Kisco, Kevin Roy of Syracuse, Jamie Sindelar of Elmira, and Trevor Sluman of Pittsford.

The LECOM Health Challenge is a part of the Korn Ferry Tour conducted over 72 holes of stroke play. The Korn Ferry Tour is a developmental tour for professional golfers who have not yet reached the PGA Tour. Korn Ferry consulting group replaced Web.com as the tour's title sponsor earlier this year.

The Upper Golf Course at Peek’N Peak has hosted multiple PGA Web.com Tour events, in addition to the LECOM Health Challenge. The par-72 layout will be set up at 7,058 yards for this week’s championship.

Bard finished runner-up at the 2015 U.S. Amateur at Olympia Fields Country Club. He played collegiate golf at the University of Virginia and has five amateur wins under his belt, including the 2017 Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invite and Monroe Invitational. Bard currently resides in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

Bigley, a Siena College graduate, has one Top-10 finish under his belt on the Korn Ferry Tour. He shot a 15-under 265 to finish T-2 at the Wichita Open Supporting Wichita's Youth in June. 

Campbell competed in the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills golf course in Erin, Wisconsin. He played collegiate golf at Newberry College.

Earlier this year, McCarthy captured his first Korn Ferry Tour title by a stroke at the Savannah Golf Championship in Savannah, Georgia with a 16-under total. McCarthy grew up in the Syracuse area and played college golf for the Le Moyne Dolphins from 2005-2007, and turned professional in 2007. He currently resides in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Miller earned Korn Ferry status late last year and seeks his first tour win. He turned pro at the 2013 Met Open after one semester playing for Penn State’s golf team.

Roy turned pro in 2012 after attending Long Beach State University. 

Sindelar, son of PGA Champions Tour professional Joey Sindelar, turned pro in 2012 after graduating from Ohio State University. 

Sluman won the 2015 New York State Men’s Amateur at Kaluhyat Golf Club. He earned his first PGA TOUR Series-China title at the Sanya Championship earlier this year.
