Eligibility

Entry is open to male and female amateur golfers who meet the following requirements:

  1. Membership: All players must be a member of the NYSGA, as defined by belonging to an NYSGA Member Club or having joined as a 2017 NYSGA eClub Member.
  2. Handicap: To compete for net prizes and points for the NYSGA Amateur Series Championship, players must have an active, up-to-date Handicap Index®, issued by a golf club that is licensed to use the USGA Handicap System™. A player who does not meet this requirement will only be eligible to compete for gross prizes.
  3. Age: There are no age restrictions for this tournament.
Divisions and Flights

DIVISIONS

A player may register to compete in one of the following divisions: Men's Division (all ages), Men's Senior Division (ages 55+), or the Women's Division.  Players within these divisions will compete for net and gross prizes, as well as for points towards the 2017 NYSGA Amateur Series Championship to be held at Shenendoah GC.

FLIGHTS

Players in each division will be placed into roughly equal sized flights based on players’ handicap index as of the tournament’s entry deadline. The number of flights will be determined by the number of players in each division as follows: 5-19 players (1 flight), 20-38 players (2 flights), 39+ players (3 flights).

Format, Field Size and Schedule

FORMAT & RULES

The format of this tournament is 18 holes of individual stroke play (gross and net scores). The USGA Rules of Golf govern play, except as modified in the NYSGA Hard Card.

HANDICAP

A player will receive 100% of their Course Handicap. Players who wish to compete for net prizes are required to have an active, up-to-date Handicap Index from a USGA licensed golf club. The NYSGA has defined an "up-to-date" Handicap Index as having posted five 18-hole scores in the previous three active posting months.

TEES

The following tees have been assigned to each division: Men's Flights - Blue Tees (6177 Yards), Men's Senior Flights - White Tees (5863 Yards), and Women's Division - Red Tees (5241 Yards). 

FIELD SIZE

The field is limited to the first 80 players to register. Those who register after the field has reached its capacity will be added to a wait list in the order that their entry is received.

Prizes

OVERVIEW

Prizes are awarded to the top net and gross finishers in each flight. A player may only win one prize, and if a player is eligible to receive two prizes, the higher value of the two (gross or net) will be awarded. Prizes are in the form of professional shop gift certificates and are redeemable at the host club.  The NYSGA is not responsible for any unclaimed or unredeemed merchandise certificates after a tournament play date.

DISQUALIFICATION PENALTY

A player is disqualified from a net prize/points if their net score beats the course rating by eight or more strokes and beats the next best net score in their division by four or more strokes.

Individuals that win first place net in three or more events in a calendar year will be subject to reduced course handicaps through the remainder of the calendar year. Competitors who qualify for this reduction will be subject to the following course handicap reductions for the remainder of the tournament season. After 3rd win – additional 20% reduction of Course Handicap, after 4th win – additional 30% reduction of Course Handicap, after 5th win – additional 40% reduction of Course Handicap, and so forth.
