NYSGA Handicap Services

The Game of Golf owes its current popularity in large part to the development of a uniform and equitable Handicap System which allows players of differing ability to play and compete on an even playing field. The United State Golf Association has developed the USGA Handicap System, which as been adopted as the National Standard for Golf Handicapping.

While this System is very good in its theory, it is only as good as its Implementation and Supervision. New York State is very fortunate to have a number of strong District Golf Associations who are very concerned with Golf Handicapping. The New York State Golf Association has made the commitment to aid the District Golf Associations where it can and to supervise the implementation of the USGA Handicap System in the areas not covered by another Association. The NYSGA/GHIN Handicap Network links participating member Clubs to over 9,000 Clubs & almost 2 million golfers nationwide while offering the support needed to help those Clubs do the best job possible in issuing fair and equitable Handicaps to their members. There is now widespread acceptance of GHIN in New York State. The goal of the NYSGA is to continue this trend and promote GHIN throughout the State in order to achieve a uniformity which allows superior communication, supervision and acceptance of handicaps throughout the state.
