For Rochester golfers who want an official Handicap Index but do not belong to a golf club, the New York State Golf Association is offering one possible solution.

The NYSGA is now offering “eClub Rochester,” which allows area golfers to post scores online and receive emailed Handicap Index revisions every two weeks during the golf season. This “non-real estate” golf club is licensed by the New York State Golf Association, which means the Handicap Index will be accepted wherever a golfer travels to play.

For $35 per year, the site offers not only handicapping software but also statistic tracking features. For example, enter information from a round of golf - such as number of putts or driving distance - and the site creates easy-to-analyze charts and graphs.

The yearly fee also includes membership in the New York State Golf Association, which means that eClub Rochester members will be eligible to compete in NYSGA Championships. eClub members also get discounted entry fees to NYSGA State Day Tournaments – casual net-handicap events with players being flighted based upon Course Handicap. One such tournament will be held at Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor on Saturday, May 16th.

Ravenwood Golf Club, Victor, has been selected to host the 2009 Men’s Amateur Championship to be held July 14-18.  Ravenwood last hosted the Championship in 2003, when Kyle Hess defeated Matt Thomas in a thrilling 36 hole final match.

The NYSGA would like to thank the staff at Ravenwood for stepping up to meet the challenge of hosting the Men’s Amateur for the second time in 7 years.

Entries will be available for this and all other NYSGA Championships March 31, 2009.  Please click here for the full 2009 Championship & Qualifying Schedule.

The NYSGA will be an exhibitor at the Rochester and Syracuse Golf Shows.  Executive Director, Bill Moore and Director of Handicapping, Scott Gerbereux will be at the booth to talk with golfers, handout information and answer questions.

From February 13-15 they will be at the Dome Arena in Henrietta for the Rochester Golf Show and on February 20-22 at the OnCenter in Syracuse for the Syracuse Golf Show.

At these shows golfers can signup for a free two-month membership to the NYSGA eClub program, get the 2009 Championship and qualifier schedule, register for the fun State Days net tournament series and play Nintendo Wii.

Shake off the snow, start thinking about playing golf and visit the Golf Shows.  Be sure to stop by the NYSGA booth, introduce yourself and play Tiger Woods golf on Nintendo Wii!
